8th Annual ICycle For HomeStart is an Enormous Success
More than 300 cyclists braved the frigid temperatures last week to participate in the 8th annual ICycle 2015, an all-day spinning event to raise funds for HomeStart. Participation from board members, local media personalities, and corporate teams drew crowds outside of One International Place despite wind, snow, and bitter cold.
“We want to thank all of our friends, supporters, and especially the brave riders who made this year our most successful ICycle yet,” said Chris Powell, Chair of the board of HomeStart. HomeStart raised a record $200,000 in funds – far surpassing last year’s event which raised $140,000.
Media personalities rode throughout the day and were coordinated with the help of HomeStart advisory board members Janet Wu of WHDH-7News and Steve Aveson of NECN. Media riders included Kerry Byrne of the Boston Herald and ColdHardFootballFacts.com, Alice Cook- former Olympian, veteran sports reporter and founder of She’sGameSports.com, Josh Brogadir of NECN, Susan Tran of WHDH-7 news, Antoinette Antonio and Danielle Vollmar of WCVB-TV Ch. 5. Also supporting the riders, former WBZ-TV Chief Correspondent Joe Shortsleeve and team mascots Wally the Green Monster of the Boston Red Sox and Pat the Patriot of the New England Patriots.
“Every day more and more people in our community are affected by homelessness,” says Linda Wood-Boyle, President and CEO of HomeStart. “While we know people had fun at the ICycle, we also hope they understand the important message behind it—that one or two hours in the cold cannot compare to living without a home. The ICycle event is just one way we can simulate a fraction of the many challenges those struggling with homelessness must face.”
HomeStart would also like to thank its ICycle sponsors: The Chiofaro Company as well as our participating teams: IR&M, Energi, ICON Architecture, Fidelity, South Shore Super Heroes, Federal Home Loan Bank of Boston, The Frechette Family, State Street, Fairway Independent Mortgage Corp., RCN Boston, Ropes & Gray, Clarendon Group, Morgan Stanley, Eastern Bank, Safety Insurance and UBS. Also a hearty thank you to the spin instructors from Republic Fitness and David’s Teas who provided complimentary teas to nourish the riders and volunteers.
